What better way to start off the re-birth of cosplay reviews than by making fun of some high class video game cosplay?
Midna Cosplay I by ~SensoOokami
Who is this you ask? Well, this is supposed to Midna. However, this looks like more of an attempt to wear a skin tight suit with bad makeup.
First of all, what is with that pose? You’re yawning? Are you that damn bored wherever the hell you are at? Notice that they had to draw a belly button on the suit. That looks fucking ridiculous. Of course, the main attraction is that giant head piece. You can tell it’s Styrofoam, look at it closely and you can see the choppy cutting. It’s like the knife that was used was dull.
But enough about the costume, look at the setting. You can clearly see trash on the ground. Obviously a great place to pose for the camera. I’m not even sure what is going on in the background. I see a woman sitting back there, and a giant, unrecognizable silver tube/stick. It just makes you wonder what the hell is going on. Judging from the mess that is this picture, a riot is not far off.
Midna Cosplay II by ~SensoOokami
Here’s another Midna cosplay. There is one issue I have with it: WHY THE FUCK DID YOU PAINT YOUR BODY???
It looks horrid. One key to cosplay, if you have to paint yourself a different color, do not cosplay as that character. Oh, and the red contacts are just strange. It makes you look bloodshot.
So there you have it, the first text based review to hit the site. Let me know your thoughts on how this went, and please, do suggest some cosplay pictures.

ill start with the imp midna.
I think that an airbrush with a stencil would have worked better than acrylic (too thick and heavy, pluss an unnatural sheen) but sometimes you have to work with what youve got. (next time try some different paints on a similar fabric, see what works best) It makes sense to use styrofoam for the headdress, its both lightweight and easy to manipulate; the carvings are crude in places but still badass.
now moving on to the princess midna.
Whats wrong with painting yourself a diferent color in cosplay? who made this rule? who ever it was i want them to say it to the face of makeup artist Rick Baker. (look it up) Professional actors or not, you put on the costume of a character, its cosplay. Years of hollywood experience or just raw skill and talent, if it looks good it looks good, and this looks damn good. now i have seen some bad paint jobs on people before, uneven and streaky, but this one is smooth and solid. Well done! I give mad kudos. the contacts are more that appropriate considering midna has red eyes. only problem I see is a crooked head dress. It sounds to me like jimbo here is just nitpicking and being completly unproductive and spitefull in his criticism. get some selfeesteem you fuck.
Whats wrong? People cosplay for the fun of it, Not to be GOOD at it. So what? There’s stuff in the background. Sure they could’ve taken a better picture in a better location..But they didn’t, and its just something that People like yourself need to deal with. And she’s yawning for a reason. Midna is always bored in the game when she’s riding on wolf Link’s back. She’s CONSTANTLY yawning..Hence the pose.
For the next picture, I see nothing wrong with it. She did a very nice job with painting her body, and it looks very even. A very nice cosplay and I think that her red contacts make it even more unique since Midna’s eyes ARE red..Overall it was very nicely done so I have no idea what you’re complaining about…I would like to see YOU do some cosplay pics so that we could critique you on the crappy job you’ve done.
Terrible Critique altogether. She’s yawning because if you had the decency to play the game Twilight Princess (Which you clearly haven’t saying as you don’t understand why a midna would paint her body, have red contacts, or why she’d be yawning) you know these things. i know the first cosplayer, she did amazing. the only thing I would have changed is the fact that she should ahve used a wig as opposed to her real hair. And I have nothing wrong with ichigo kitty minus the crooked head piece.
But yes, some people DO cosplay to be good at it, and these two are some of the group, and they did well indeed.
As the first comment said….get some self esteem you fuck.
I think its supposed to look “choppy” to give the idea that its aged rock. And cosplay is cosplay. theres nothing wrong with painting yourself to achieve the effect. Man, your reviews have been getting worse….
i agree with all statements said here, there is nothing wrong with cosplaying, it’s just a fun thing to do.
And body painting is actually a common thing too, so i wouldn’t get too worked up about it.
Okay, so here’s the thing about Midna. The markings on her body are not clothes. Some people have even theorized that they’re shadows. I would imagine it’s hard to wear shadows, so body suits and/or body painting is the next best option.
Now let’s go to the actual photos, shall we?
Imp Midna: Of course she’s yawning. That’s because that’s part of her personality. (Out of curiosity, how much do you even know about twilight princess? Because it doesn’t seem like you knew anything about it when you ranted about this.) To be honest, the head piece looks pretty good. I’d honestly like to see you do better than that. The helmet’s supposedly made out of stone, and the helmet was broken off of something else, so naturally it looks choppy (around the eye at least). Okay, so a trashy bg wasn’t the best idea. However, “judging from the mess that is in this picture”, this was probably shot at a convention. So naturally, there’s other cosplayer’s junk all over the place. I’m surprised they found any space to sit in the first place.
True form Midna: why did she paint her body? Again, because it was probably the best she could do. What other options would you suggest, anyways? You’re obviously against body suits and body painting, but what else can you do if a character’s design is skin tight and not natural skin color? At least she didn’t need to paint her belly button on, right? Her contacts are red because her eye color is red. Unless you can find a pair of non-expensive realistic looking red contacts, then I would imagine that this is the best that she could have done at the time.
Personally, if I were to comment on a cosplay, I wouldn’t troll about it. I’d post up an actual critique, where I suggested a better option. But then again, that’s just what I would do. Clearly, you prefer ranting about all the bad points and not comment on the good parts.
Absolutely, and she is staying true to the character he is dressed as.
